Back in 2023, Upfront Healthcare (part of the Health Catalyst Group) needed to accelerate development of its patient engagement platform for two reasons. First, to meet and exceed client demand. Second, to stay front of mind for their ideal customers in the highly competitive healthcare SaaS market.
Two key modules – Task Management and Broadcasting – needed vital enhancements to improve efficiency and user experience. But there was a problem: limited tech talent pools in the US and India were creating bottlenecks in development capacity and slowing down go-to-market times at a pivotal moment for the business.
With client feedback pushing for more self-service tools and greater campaign flexibility, Upfront Healthcare needed a partner who could quickly integrate, deliver fast, and help balance technical debt with innovation.
Whilst it’s still relatively early days in terms of the broader business goals, the impact of the partnership is already being felt:
Upfront Healthcare engaged Proshore to augment their engineering capacity and deliver on critical roadmap initiatives. Starting with a single squad in early 2024, the partnership quickly grew to three teams, each focused on different areas of the platform.
Proshore supported both product and engineering efforts, bringing a fresh perspective to Upfront Healthcare’s complex codebase. Team members even stepped into product ownership roles when needed.
Seamless collaboration across time zones, proactive communication via Slack and DevOps, and ownership of testing and quality allowed the augmented team to deliver features faster with fewer issues.
Proshore’s teams began modernizing key components of the platform, starting with MarketInsight, where they planned the migration from MongoDB Cloud to Azure Cosmos DB for improved scalability and cost efficiency. As part of their modernization efforts, the team also upgraded to the latest version of Node.js.
To enhance the patient experience, Proshore revamped the Patient Engagement Feed, transitioning it from an older Angular system to Angular 14. This overhaul made the interface more intuitive and significantly reduced the number of bugs.
On the quality assurance front, Proshore implemented CypressJS to automate testing for the Task Management module, replacing manual QA processes and accelerating release cycles with greater confidence.
Proshore’s contributions helped Upfront Healthcare significantly reduce time-to-market for new features – particularly the campaign management solution now actively used by clients. The augmented team was able to launch capabilities like mass SMS broadcasts with personalization in days instead of months.
Beyond velocity, the partnership delivered architectural improvements, cleaner processes, and a solid foundation for future scalability. This helped position Upfront Healthcare for successful integration into Health Catalyst’s broader ecosystem, post-acquisition.
