Turning Software into a Strategic Growth Engine for Industrial Identification

Working with Proshore enabled Altec to take control of its software experience, turn customer needs into new functionality faster, and build a proprietary platform designed to strengthen retention and long-term growth.

Altec specialises in industrial identification, providing label printers, labelling software, specialist materials, and technical support. Unlike suppliers focused on standard paper labels, the company serves demanding applications where labels may need to withstand chemicals, high temperatures, electrostatic discharge, and other challenging conditions.

Its business is built around lasting customer relationships. Printers and software enable customers to use Altec’s specialist consumables, while installation and support help keep their operations running reliably.

But as software became increasingly important to the overall experience, relying on third-party products left a critical part of the customer relationship outside Altec’s control.

“My interest has always been in how we can make products better, so customers choose us instead of us having to try to sell something. If the product is really good and the support is good, they will stick with us.”
Tommy Vandevelde
Commercial Manager, Altec

The challenge

Historically, Altec supplied third-party software alongside its printers and label materials. Although these products provided useful functionality, Altec had limited influence over how they developed.

Feature priorities, release schedules, and commercial decisions remained with external providers. When customers requested new functionality, Altec could share that feedback but could not determine whether the feature would be developed, how long it would take or what customers might be charged.

Altec had the product vision, customer relationships, and specialist market knowledge needed to create something better. It needed dependable engineering capacity to turn those insights into a secure, stable, and continuously improving product.

The company wanted to take ownership of the software experience without recruiting and managing an entire development operation in-house.

“I can build something with AI and show what I want it to do, but I still need Proshore. They make sure it is secure, put it on the servers, and check that it works properly.”
Tommy Vandevelde
Commercial Manager, Altec

The Approach

Proshore partnered with Altec to develop PrintLabels.Online, a proprietary cloud-based platform that brings software into Altec’s integrated identification offering.

The relationship combines two complementary areas of expertise. Altec owns the product vision and contributes its understanding of customers, products, and labelling workflows. Proshore provides the software engineering expertise, infrastructure, and technical oversight needed to turn that vision into production-ready functionality.

The teams work closely through structured two-week sprints. Feedback comes directly from customers and Altec’s sales team, while Altec remains available to clarify requirements and make quick decisions throughout development.

The collaboration has also evolved to include AI-assisted prototyping. Altec can create functional demonstrations showing how a proposed feature should work. Proshore then reviews the implementation, improves the code, and integrates it safely into the live platform.

This combines faster experimentation with professional engineering discipline. AI helps Altec communicate and test its ideas, while Proshore ensures the resulting software is secure, reliable, and maintainable.

Impact

PrintLabels.Online has transformed software from an external dependency into a platform Altec can continuously improve around its customers. Customer suggestions can become working functionality within two to four weeks, while technical issues are frequently resolved within 24 hours. This allows Altec to respond to specialist requests that larger software providers may be unable or unwilling to prioritise. Owning the platform also enables Altec to connect software more closely with its printers, materials, ecommerce and support. The result is a more cohesive customer experience and a stronger foundation for retention.
